Pick it up before you buy it
A laptop you will carry every day is decided by things a specification sheet cannot express. Whether it feels heavy after ten minutes in one hand. Whether the keyboard suits you. Whether the screen is comfortable in normal light.
These are two-minute questions in a shop and a returns process online.
Ask what is soldered
Many laptops now solder memory, and sometimes storage, to the board — so the amount fitted is the amount it will always have. That single fact often matters more to how long the machine stays useful than the processor does.
It is worth asking before buying, because it cannot be changed after.
What we see come back
The workshop is here, so we know which hinges crack, which keyboards wear, and which designs turn a simple screen replacement into an expensive job. We factor that into what we put in front of you.
Asked at the counter
Can I compare a few machines side by side?
Can you move my files from my old laptop?
